For two weeks this summer our missionaries gathered for training: morning prayer, conferences on the spiritual life and the new evangelisation, time on the campus model that the FOCUS team has refined over twenty-five years, and many long shared meals.
What strikes us, year after year, is how ordinary the people God calls really are. Engineers and teachers and recent graduates. Football players and musicians. Quiet thinkers and natural extroverts. The mission does not need a special kind of person — it needs people who say yes.
This September our missionaries take up posts in Cork, Belfast, Passau and Vienna. Each team is rooted in the local parish or chaplaincy, in close partnership with the diocesan bishop and his collaborators.
We are grateful to the bishops who have welcomed us, to the chaplains and pastors who have made room for us on campus, and to the supporters who have stood behind our missionaries financially. The mission is shared work.
